About Me

Beneath the effort to find one’s place in this world is a personal inquiry of one’s possibilities. How far can I go? Where all can I go? What all can I achieve? What all can I be?

The Reason

The allure of imagination leads some in a childlike arrogance to question the beliefs that drive the so-called norms of the society. For me, the norms were an enchanting invitation for an existential enquiry, an audacious enterprise to step outside the boundaries of what is, into the realm of what is possible.

I was fourteen when Baaji’s (older sister) husband returned her to our home for having delivered two daughters. The agony of my sister was unbearable for me but I was more troubled by the blatant declaration that not only was a woman deferential to her purpose, her birth was an obstruction in the birth of a boy, her arrival was an opportunity wasted.

I jumped into a new puddle of prospects - was dignity an option for my gender? Right then, began my odyssey to become the celebration of a girl child. The glory of womanhood must begin with financial independence, by earning a place at the table of decision makers. The stories of my life and the directions my life expanded in were all set in motion by that one simple aspiration

Steps

My life found a new direction in 1991, with my first ever venture, Cantabae Institute of Foreign Languages & Personality Development, which I started with Rs 800. I was still in school those days, but I learned the fundamentals of business and marketing through Cantabae. Over time, it blossomed into Cantabae Education and Welfare society and has done some landmark contribution to the lives of women and children of Bhopal.

When one person engages in a quest for meaning in life, they support many such quests. I learned this from my work at Cantabae. The more I sought myself, the more useful I became to the world. Growth in life is a personal process, but its outcomes are collaborative.
